in the Forte Cultura European Network

Râşnov Citadel becomes the first objective in Romania accepted in

European Network Forte Cultura

Today, March 30, 2023, the Râşnov Fortress joined the European Network of Fortifications -

Forte Cultura, an association of the most important cultural sites with fortifications in

Europe. The event took place at the Svetog Ivana Fortress in Sibenik (Croatia).

FORTE CULTURA aims to support the diverse architectural and cultural heritage of

fortified monuments, to promote their change into places of culture and tourism and to raise awareness among the general public. Shared responsibility for the cultural heritage of

of fortified monuments is exercised mainly through European cooperation, the network having over 150 associated members. Forte Cultura offers a wide range of modern marketing tools and promotional activities, specially oriented to the needs of fortified monuments, thus its members acquire a wide presence in international tourist markets. 

 

"Râşnov Citadel is today one of the most important medieval monuments in Romania and is undergoing an extensive restoration process. In parallel with the completion of the rehabilitation of the fortress, it is important to prepare for the moment of its reopening to the general public, but also for a strategic and sustainable management. Thus, we are joining a dynamic European network because we want to learn from partners with more experience, to develop projects together with them, but also to increase our notoriety on the European markets. We will focus in the short term on strengthening the connection between the local community and the citadel, developing educational activities for heritage and offering tourists a quality experience during their visit to the Citadel and in the Râşnov area." The concept of cultural management has changed significantly in recent decades, and our societies tend to focus again on dialogue between cultures, respect for identities and diversity, and a sense of belonging to European values.
